- Admission and Progression Requirement
Entry Requirements
MPhil (Two Years): a candidate must have obtained a good first degree (Second Class Upper Division or better) in either Religious Studies or Theology from a recognized or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution.
For the MPhil Programme, a candidate with the Social Sciences or Humanities background must in addition have at least a diploma in Theology/Religious Studies from a recognized University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution. Admission is subject to passing an entrance examination and interview.
An MA Religious Studies candidate from the Department with a minimum CWA of 65.00 or better at the end of the second semester, who has a first degree in Religious Studies or Theology, may upon a recommendation by the Departmental Board and the Graduate School Board, be admitted to the to the second year of the MPhil programme.
Assessment Requirements
The assessment of students will be based on:
- Seminar Presentations
- Colloquium Presentations
- Publishable Article
- Continuous Assessment
This will form 40% of the overall assessment and will comprise of take-home assignments, term paper and mid-semester examination.
- End of semester examinations
This will form 60% of the overall assessment and will be written under formal examination conditions at the end of the semester.
- Thesis (25,000 words)
Requirements for Graduation
For the award of the MPhil in Religious Studies, the student must have:
- passed examinations in all courses registered with a minimum mark of 55 percent
- obtained a total score not exceeding 20 percent with each component not exceeding 2 percent in the similarity test using KNUST’s Turnitin system
- submitted and successfully defended a thesis;

- Social Services – Management, Community Development and Non-Governmental, Not-for-Profit Organizations, Environmental Agencies, the Media
- Government Services – Civil Service and other Public Sector Service
